Our Beliefs
What we believe will determine how we navigate the journey through the sport. As long as we remind ourselves of these core beliefs, we can respond productively to any given situation.
1. Wrestling is a Martial Art
The main reason for participating in the activity of wrestling (training) is the physical and mental development that comes through the process of individual mastery.
- Health and wellness.
- Self defense and body awareness.
- Emotional control, wellness, and resilience.
- Mental toughness, work ethic, and self-determination. (grit)
- System thinking and improved mental processing.
- Self-awareness.
- Confidence and self-belief.
2. Your Approach & Effort Matter
Just because someone participates in wrestling, doesn’t mean that they will achieve or obtain the benefits that are associated with the sport. (listed above – #1)
- You must value personal excellence or high achievement. (goal oriented)
- You must bring effort and focus to a given task.
- You must learn to love the process.
3. Competition is a Developmental Test
The reason for competing (especially at youth level) is to test your abilities and training strategies with others around a shared rule set.
- Ability to execute techniques and prevent others from executing their techniques.
- Situational awareness
- Chain wrestling
- Mental composure
- Endurance and physical shape
4. Elite competition is the stage for entertainment and financial opportunity
The pursuit of being Elite by athletes from across the state, country, and world, ultimately creates a performance community. This community of people share the admiration and interest for the quest to achieve the highest levels of performance by individuals and teams.
This creates the foundation for storytelling in and around the sport that ultimately develops economic value. For example, college, showcase events, personal brands, coaching, social media, and podcasts.
- NCAA Wrestling, the Olympics, and the UFC are the current avenues for professionalism in combat sports.
- Social media and internet marketing offers additional income opportunities.
- NIL (Name, Image, and Likeness), podcasting, brand partnerships, and digital networking.
Focus on Effort, Not Outcome
“Winning and losing doesn’t define you. How you compete does.” Sanderson learned from his father that effort — not results — is what builds character and consistency.
Compete Without ‘Inhaling’
Whether it’s junk food, toxic media, or praise from fans — his athletes are taught to filter what they take in. “What you feed your body and your mind matters.”
Pressure Is a Privilege
Sanderson doesn’t shield athletes from pressure — he prepares them for it. “If there wasn’t a lot at stake, why would we even do this?”
Lead Without Ego
Cael rarely raises his voice. He doesn’t chase the spotlight. Instead, he leads with calm, humility, and faith. “You either choose to be humble, or you’re compelled to be.”
Wrestle with Purpose
The goal isn’t just to win — it’s to grow. “What makes you great on the mat — discipline, selflessness, consistency — makes you better in life.”
No Shortcuts
Every inch is earned. “You can take shortcuts and be good. But if you want to be the best, there’s no room for that here.”
Keep Perspective
Win or lose, life keeps going. “Sometimes not winning is the greater blessing. You just don’t see it yet.”
